PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT

Job Summary:  

A Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) administers physical therapy to patients on an intermittent basis in their place of residence performed in accordance with physician orders and plan of care under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist and the Director of Nursing/Clinical Supervisor.

Qualifications :

  • Has graduated from a 2-year college-level program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association; or, has 2 years of appropriate experience as a Physical Therapy Assistant, and has achieved a satisfactory grade on a proficiency examination conducted, approved, or sponsored by the U.S. Public Health Service.
  • Licensed or registered to practice as a PTA in the state of practice.
  • Has at least two (2) years appropriate experience as a PTA.
  • Possesses and maintains good physical stamina and mental health. Presents a pre-employment physician’s health clearance, including negative TB skin tests and/or CXR and other tests as required by specific state statute.
  • Has the ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given.
  • Possesses and maintains current CPR certification.
  • Is flexible and cooperative in fulfilling the role obligations.
  • Demonstrates tact, patience, and good personal hygiene.
  • Is a licensed driver and has an automobile that is insured in accordance with Lorian Home Systems, Inc. of Las Vegas (LORIAN) requirements. Must be able to verbally communicate in the language of the client and document all client related activity practices.

Responsibilities :

  • Understands and adheres to established LORIAN policies and procedures.
  • Improves or minimizes residual physical disabilities of the patient.
  • Returns the individual to optimum and productive level within the patient’s capabilities.
  • Participates with all other health care personnel in patient care planning.
  • Performs all skilled procedures as ordered by physician and according to plan of care established by PT.
  • Consults with PT regarding change in treatment.
  • Educates and instructs patients and family members in home programs and fine motor movement exercises.
  • Participates in in-service education and presents in-service programs as assigned.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities as assigned.
  • Attends all patient care conferences as scheduled.
  • Prepares medical records and updates care plans for each patient visit in a timely manner as per LORIAN policy.
  • Performs services planned, delegated, and supervised by the PT.
  • Assists in preparing clinical and progress notes.
  • Completes, maintains, and submits accurate and relevant clinical notes regarding patients/clients condition and care given in accordance with LORIAN policies and procedures.
    • Note: Documentation must be accurate, complete, and submitted to LORIAN before visit is deemed acceptable and payable to PTA.
