Job Summary:
Responsible for overseeing the billing for Lorian Home Systems, Inc. for San Diego and the Las Vegas office. Ensures all billing is done in a timely and accurate manner.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of high school or commercial coursework including math, bookkeeping, and business.
- Coursework in insurance billing (i.e. Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance companies), data processing, and medical terminology or equivalent experience necessary.
- One year prior experience in billing of third party insurances for facility and professional services required.
- Familiarity with form UB92 preferred.
- Must be able to type 35 wpm and operate CRT and personal computer.
- Must be able to bill third party insurance carriers electronically as well as by hard copy.
- Must have knowledge of third party billing requirements. Must show maturity and professionalism in dealing with fellow employees and any individual or entity in a way that best represents LORIAN.
- Good verbal and written skills are essential.
- Ability to work under stress with interruptions and deadlines.
- Ability to process verbal information and input this information into the computer system.
- Ability to follow complex instructions.
Responsibilities
- Prepares and submits LORIAN based claims to third party insurance carriers either electronically or by hard copy billing.
- Secures needed medical documentation required or requested by third party insurances.
- Follow up with third party insurance carriers on unpaid claims until claims are paid or proper closure is brought to the claim.
- Processes rejections either by making accounts private and generating a letter of rejection to patient or by correcting any billing error(s) and resubmitting claims to third party insurance carriers.
- Works with Quality Assurance and the Medical Records Department to ensure that correct diagnosis/procedures are reported to third party insurance carriers.
- Prepares the weekly planned billing to ensure we stay on track of our weekly goals.
- Keeps track of any insurance or benefit changes that may take place while a patient is on service with LORIAN.
- Posts third party insurance remittance advice/explanation of benefits, and reviews they to ensure they are claims are paid accurately.
- Monitors claims for missing information, authorization, and control numbers.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information.
- Completes work within authorized time to assure compliance with departmental standards.
- Keeps updated on all third party billing requirements and changes for insurance types within their area of responsibility.
- Demonstrates knowledge of, and supports, LORIAN’S mission, vision, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions.
- Performs such other duties as assigned.
