Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of Patient Care Services (ADOPCS) assists the Director of Patient Care Services (DOPCS) with supervising home health services to homebound patients in their place of residence in accordance with attending physician orders and plans of care and strives to provide the highest quality of care. Skilled nursing and other therapeutic services are under the supervision of the DOPCS and the ADOPCS as necessary. The ADOPCS is available at all time during operating hours and participates in all activities relevant to professional services furnished as identified by the DOPCS, including the development of qualification and assignment of personnel.
Qualifications
- Registered by the state(s) where currently practicing as a RN, if a RN.
- Two to three years of experience in health care/homecare, preferred.
- Two years in a supervisory position, preferred.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply community health principles and practices.
- Knowledge of Lorian Home Systems, Inc. (LORIAN) policies and procedures.
- Ability to supervise, to guide, and to develop skills and performance of service personnel.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to work with individuals.
- Ability to enlist cooperation of many people in furthering a program.
- Ability to assist in evaluating personnel a minimum of one time per year.
- Monitors probationary period for new employees.
- Ability to deal effectively with high levels of stress.
- Knowledge of Medicare/Medi-Cal rules and regulations relative to coverage and delivery of home health services
Responsibilities
Assists the DOPCS by:
- Participating in developing standards which ensure the safe and therapeutically effective delivery of services to patients and families and seeing that quality standards are met and that LORIAN is kept compliant with applicable Medicare and state regulations.
- Participating in development of strategic objectives for LORIAN and seeing that objectives are implemented.
- Determining a staffing pattern which will accomplish stated objectives and promote optimum level of utilization of clinical personnel.
- Evaluating, counseling, and terminating service personnel.
- Participating in planning for the orientation of new employees.
- Conducting selected orientation classes.
- Planning and arranging for consultation needs of staff; preparing and maintaining current policies and procedures which meet Medicare, Medicaid, and any other relevant regulatory body regulations and implements/revises such concurrently.
- Supporting LORIAN personnel policies and procedures and using appropriate channels for change of such policies; establishing criteria and procedures for selection, promotion, and termination of employment of service personnel.
- Participating in establishing the functions and qualifications for each service position and coordinates interdisciplinary team services:
- Assuring ongoing assessment of patient/family needs and implementation of interdisciplinary team plan of care.
- Assuring physician approval of plans for continuity, change, or termination of medical care.
- Providing individual or group support concerning job related stress issues.
- Participating in coordinating LORIAN’S services with services of other community agencies.
- Participating in studies and research and other administrative functions as assigned.
- Conducting (no less frequently than monthly) patient case conferences, in-services, staff meetings, and maintains documentation; participates in community education projects.
- Monitoring equipment for appropriate use and takes steps to keep misuse to a minimum.
- Ensuring that patients’ plans of care are developed, implemented, and evaluated.
- Ensuring that all necessary supplies and equipment are available.
- Ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and LORIAN policies in all aspects of patient care provided by LORIAN.
- Ensuring that care provided to patients is properly documented on patient’s chart.
- Overseeing staffing and visit assignment.
- Addressing and correcting all patient concerns.
- Ensuring that patients are properly admitted and discharged to/from LORIAN and that the intake/discharge process is both timely and properly documented.
- Investigating and reporting any problem relating to patient care or conditions which might harm the patient and/or employee well-being.
The ADOPCS will at all times:
- Be responsible for serving as a role model to all colleagues by setting an example of high standards in dress, conduct, cooperation, and job performance.
- Act as a qualified temporary replacement when DOPCS is not available.
- Observe confidentiality and safeguards all patient related information.
- Accept responsibility for regular attendance, punctuality, and fulfills job requirements without regard to time involved.
- Serve as a resources person to employees.
- Develop a cooperative relationship and communicates effectively and professionally with the physicians.
- Immediately report any accident, incident, lost articles, or unusual occurrence to the Administrator.
- Attend pertinent continuing education programs other than routine in-services and shares information with staff.
