Job Summary:
A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) administers occupational therapy to patients on an intermittent basis in their place of residence performed in accordance with physician orders and a plan of care under the direction and supervision of the Certified Occupational Therapist and Clinical Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- A person who meets the requirements for certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant established by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTO).
- Registered by the AOTO and certified to practice in the state of California.
- Has at least one (1) year appropriate experience as a COTA.
- Possesses and maintains good physical stamina and mental health. Presents a pre-employment physician’s health clearance, including negative TB skin test and/or CXR.
- Has the ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given.
- Possesses and maintains current CPR certification.
- Is flexible and cooperative in fulfilling the role obligations.
- Demonstrates tact, patience, and good personal hygiene.
- Is a licensed driver and has an automobile that is insured in accordance with Lorian Home Systems, Inc. (LORIAN) requirements.
- Must be able to verbally communicate in the language of the client, or be able to use translation services provided by LORIAN, and document all client related activity practices.
Responsibilities:
- Understands and adheres to established LORIAN policies and procedures.
- Improves or minimizes residual physical disabilities of the patient.
- Returns the individual to optimum and independent levels of bathing and dressing and upper body range of motion within the patient’s capabilities.
- Participates with all other health care personnel in patient care planning.
- Performs all skilled procedures as ordered by physician and according to plan of care established by OT.
- Consults with OT before any change in treatment.
- Educates and instructs patients and family members in home programs and fine motor movement exercises.
- Participates in in-service education and presents in-service programs as assigned.
- Participates in performance improvement activities as assigned.
- Attends all patient care conferences as scheduled.
- Prepares medical records and follows care plans for each patient visit in a timely manner as per LORIAN policy.
- Performs services planned, delegated, and supervised by the OT.
- Completes clinical and progress notes.
- Completes, maintains, and submits accurate and relevant clinical notes regarding patients’/clients’ condition and care given in accordance with LORIAN policies and procedures.
Note: Documentation must be accurate, complete, and submitted to LORIAN before visit is deemed acceptable and payable to COTA.
